Stoner: Seeking a swimming solution in Sun City

Posted

I am a resident of Sun City and live across the street from the Oakmont Recreation Center.

I am permanently disabled and can barely walk. I am 62 years old. Oakmont Rec Center was a big factor in the purchase of my home.

I have a lot of difficulty making it from my car to the pool, which is closer than any other rec center I am aware of. The use of the pool chair has been a big help, but I am unsure if it is currently operational. I can barely use the stairs in the walking lane.

I am totally unable to use the stairs in the swimming lane as another medical condition makes it impossible. I am trying to work around the schedule of the volleyball players. I am at a great disadvantage due to having to enter and exit the walking area.

I was not aware there was a meeting where I could voice my concerns, and was not aware of a petition either. Somehow I missed both. Until this is resolved, I would be grateful for being allowed to enter and exit the walking area. I would appreciate information on what other pool is most similar to Oakmont.

Lakeview is out. I cannot ambulate that far or go down the incline. Thank you.
