The Queen Creek Police Department recently received a $25,000 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.
The money has helped QCPD officers address speeding and drunk driving on Queen Creek roadways through the purchase of speed-detection equipment, according to a town press release.
“These grants are very helpful in helping us meet our goals, which are to keep our roads safe and ensure that everyone in Queen Creek gets to their destination safely,” stated Queen Creek Police Chief Randy Brice in the release.
The latest numbers released by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety show that Arizona saw more than 100 alcohol-related fatalities and nearly 350 speed-related fatalities statewide for fiscal year 2022. These two areas continue to be the leading cause of driving fatalities in Arizona.
“These numbers are concerning. Traffic safety is a priority for my department. We want everyone to be safe on our roadways and to always drive to arrive,” Brice stated.
The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is the focal point for highway safety issues in Arizona. The cabinet agency provides leadership by developing, promoting and coordinating programs; influencing public and private policy; and increasing public awareness of highway safety.
