NEW FEES

Starting Jan. 1 Peoria to charge service fees for payments made by credit card

Posted

Starting Jan. 1, 2024, the city of Peoria will begin charging a service fee for all utility payments and business licenses paid with a credit or debit card.

The city had absorbed the fee that is assessed by the credit card companies to the tune of $772,000 over the last six years, a city press release notes. To ensure the fee is now only paid by those choosing to pay with a charge/debit card, the city will add a 2.8% fee, with a minimum $1.95 charge for all card payments.

Customers can avoid the credit/debit fees by paying electronically via ACH electronic funds transfers or e-check payments. In this type of payment, the customer provides a routing and checking account number to transfer the funds.
