Slechta: The benefits of the Target center redevelopment plan

Posted

Let’s not blow it! We have a plan to save the Target center, and Fry’s grocery, but we need your help.

The local Target is the lowest-producing Target in Arizona. I believe Fry’s is there, too. There was a plan submitted to build an apartment complex on the west end of the Target center, at Technology Drive. It was rejected by P&Z, and now goes to council. It would add 500 residents, which could add $500,000 to town sales tax revenue, save two major businesses, bring new businesses and create jobs.

The location is attractive for its ease of access to employment centers in Scottsdale and Mesa. And it will bring year-round young professionals to live here.

Email your Town Council members or voice your support at the Town Council meeting, on Jan. 17.

The Chamber of Commerce supports this proposal. It retains retail. It creates new demand for services. It adds dollars to our coffers to help address our roads issue. It will bring younger residents to town.

Help make the Shea corridor vibrant! Don’t ignore this opportunity. We don’t want to lose Target or Fry’s. Your help is as easy as an email. Or, better, come join us at the Town Council.
