Scottsdale Schools superintendent proves his worth and word

The Scottsdale Unified School District is getting its money’s worth with the new superintendent who has proven himself to be a “breath of sunshine” during a time when school districts nationwide confront a rapidly changing institution in the wake of a global pandemic.

Dr. Scott Menzel, who hails from Michigan, started at the district just as the coronavirus was making its way around the world, causing schools to abruptly shut and adopt online classes for continuing instructing pupils from elementary to high school. While the Paradise Valley School District recently separated from its superintendent, SUSD gave its superintendent a complimentary review.

The SUSD superintendent’s initial comprehensive evaluation will be given by June 30, 2021. His $205,000 base-salaried contract with an annual doctoral stipend of $3,000 is effective July 1, 2020-June 30, 2023, according to his contract received through a public records request.
