Scottsdale DUI task force operates this week for WM Phoenix Open

INDEPENDENT NEWSMEDIA
A DUI task force will monitor roads in Scottsdale this week during WM Phoenix Open, police said.
Scottsdale officers will be joined by other law enforcement agencies for “saturation patrols” Tuesday-Sunday, Feb. 7-12, as part of the city’s traffic safety effort, according to a release.
The task force is a collaboration among the Scottsdale Police Department, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the Gilbert and Tempe police departments.
“Task force officers will contact drivers and arrest those who make the disastrous decision to drive impaired, removing them from the roadway before they hurt themselves or others,” authorities said in a release.
In addition to the task force, the Scottsdale Police Department and other agencies will have a Know Your Limit detail Wednesday through Saturday at the golf tournament.
The goal is to teach people about their alcohol levels “to prevent them from making the decision to drive impaired in the future,” the release stated.
“The best choice to make this event season if consuming alcoholic beverages or using marijuana is to pre-arrange to have a sober driver, ride share or taxi.”
