School to resume Thursday at Gilbert's Highland High

School will resume Jan. 11 at Gilbert’s Highland High School, officials confirmed.

Salt River Project power issues were resolved the afternoon of Jan. 10, allowing Gilbert Public Schools officials to announce that school will resume the next day.

SRP and GPS’ district operations team worked around the clock, including bringing a new transformer on site and dealing with several issues that needed to be addressed by the SRP team, after the issue was identified the evening of Jan. 9.

The problems had caused sporadic power outages at campus buildings. The district then decided to cancel school Jan. 10 to ensure the safety of students, officials said.

“We appreciate SRP's response to the challenges and their diligence in solving and repairing the power issues,” a district statement read.
