The Rotary Club of Sun Lakes recently partnered with the Society of Automotive Engineers on a project designed to promote math and science learning  at Fulton Elementary School in the Chandler Unified School District.

The service project, "A World in Motion," was sponsored by the SAE wiith a goal to interest students to consider a career as an engineer or in another technical field.

Sun Lakes Rotarians joined SAE members and  visited classrooms and worked with teachers and students on a variety of hands-on competitive projects.

At the end of each session, the Rotary Club of Sun Lakes recognized the winning teams.

The majority of the volunteers involved are members of the Rotary Club of Sun Lakes, General Motors employee alumni, and ASU students.

"'A World In Motion' gets students excited about math and science. The RCSL provided 'hands on' volunteers to work in the classrooms with over 200 students at CUSD Fulton Elementary in Chandler's fifth-grade JetToy Program and the sixth-grade Gravity Cruiser Program," said Don Robins, a member of the Sun Lakes Rotary Club and leader of the program.

The JetToy fifth-grade mentoring started Oct. 26 with the final competition held on Dec. 14.  The fifth-grade Gravity Cruiser mentoring started Nov. 14 with final competition held on Dec. 20.
