The Irish Cultural Center of Phoenix will host six performances of John Perovich’s “The Monster of Tempe Town Lake,” produced by Ronin Theatre Company.
The production will show from Wednesday, May 24 through Sunday, May 28 at the Irish Cultural Center and McClelland Library, 1106 N. Central Ave., in Phoenix.
When a college student goes missing from “A” mountain, a group of amateur sleuths band together to find their friend, a news release explains of the plot. Instead, they find something monstrous.
“The play is a celebration of all things silly and spooky with a whole bunch of references to Tempe,” said Perovich, an ariZoni Award-winning playwright.
The cast features Matt Clarke (Chucky), Ryan Jenkins (Carmen), Antoinette Martin-Hanson (Heather), Jason Hall (Steve), and Eric Bond-Darling (Agent Nance). Kiley Bishop, Lamar Overton and Kate Haas share 11 roles between them.
“It’s kind of like a live-action episode of ‘Scooby-Doo’,” director Cody Gould stated.
The production crew includes Melody Knudson (assistant director/dramaturge), Perovich (sound), MJ Beckett (stage manager), Nicole Thompson and Ivy Kanani (costumes).
