SURPRISE - Robert (Bob) Conner passed away peacefully at age 90 on May 1, 2011 in Surprise. Bob is the only child of Earl and Ann Conner of Seattle, Wash. He was born and raised in Seattle, Wash., where he graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1938, and earned a letter in the tennis. He played tennis since he was 10 years old. He was attending the University of Washington as a Business Administration major when WWII broke out In 1943, he enlisted in the Navy and was stationed on Midway Island and in Palau where he served his country for three years as a submarine storekeeper. After the war, he resumed his education at the University of Washington where he completed a Bachelors of Art in 1948. It was there at the UW that he found the love of his life, Alice Cowell. They were married in 1950 and celebrated 60 wonderful years together, in which they raised their three children and shared their love of traveling the world and ballroom dancing. Bob was best known for his favorite past time of bowling. From a young age, he bowled with his father and passed down his love of bowling to his son, Randy. He was a member of the Masons, Scottish Rite, and Nile Shriners of Seattle, Wash., as well as the American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Alice Conner and three children, Randal Conner, (Theresa), Pamela Conner, and Leslee Manderson, (Mark); and his six grandchildren, Chad Conner, Casey Conner, Jaclyn Manderson, Danielle Manderson, Mark Manderson (Tiana), Kerstin Manderson; and one great-grandchild, Blakely Manderson. Bob ultimately had a career as an insurance underwriter at Safeco, Western Pacific, and Great American Insurance Company. He could light up a room with his personality, spirit and energy, and he made friends for life. He was adored by those who met him and he had a huge heart and believed in "others first." He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Hills, United Methodist Church, Chapel, 13658 W. Meeker Blvd., Sun City West, May 21, 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the National Alzheimer's Association.
