Queen Creek council members appointed to MAG committees

The Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Regional Council recently appointed Queen Creek Council Members Dawn Oliphant and Julia Wheatley to key committee assignments.

According to a town release, Wheatley was appointed to the Transportation Policy Committee. The committee is a collaboration of elected officials, the business community, Arizona Department of Transportation, Maricopa County and the Native Nations who are responsible for the implementation of Proposition 400, a voter-approved ballot measure for purposes of funding transportation projects.

Additionally, the committee is tasked with the planning and development of the next long-term regional transportation plan, known as Momentum.

Oliphant was reappointed as an at-large member of the Economic Development Committee. She has been a participant in the committee throughout the last year and has collaborated with mayors, council members and business leaders across the region to generate opportunities for both new businesses and to retain and expand existing business operations within the Maricopa region, a press release states.

MAG is a council of governments which serves as the regional planning agency for the metropolitan Phoenix area, including Pinal County.

Oliphant currently is running to maintain her seat on the Queen Creek Town Council. Wheatley is running unopposed as mayor of the town. The primary election takes place Aug. 2.
