Tempe PD had suspect in custody during Phoenix investigation

Posted

A 24-year-old man has been arrested as a suspect in connection with several threats at a school and hotel in the Valley, Phoenix police said Friday.

Alex Neriz was booked Feb. 26 on multiple counts for charges stemming from cases in Phoenix, authorities said.

On Feb. 21, Phoenix officers responded a threat call at a Valley hotel.  Employees at the business had received several emails, all making threats to commit a mass shooting at the business, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.

On Feb. 24, officers from Phoenix went to a Valley elementary school regarding a threat made to a staff member regarding a mass shooting at the school.  The school was placed on lockdown.

“The school was deemed safe after a systematic search of the campus after which detectives began this investigation,” the release stated, adding that it “progressed quickly” with the suspect connected to both threats identified.

Detectives found that Neriz was in custody of Tempe police regarding a separate threats investigation being conducted in Tempe.

“During the interview with Neriz, he admitted to making threats related to the two Phoenix investigations,” the release stated.
