Chandler police made an arrest Sunday afternoon following a car theft investigation in Pinal County where a deputy fired at the suspect who had rammed into his patrol vehicle, authorities said.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office had issued an “attempt to locate” a stolen vehicle, and Casa Grande police found the it at about 9 a.m. Sunday, April 9, officials said.

PCSO was contacted and while attempting to stop the vehicle the suspect sped off, according to a PCSO release.

The suspect came to a stop State Route 87 near mile marker 153 “and intentionally reversed, ramming into a PCSO patrol vehicle.

“The deputy fired at the suspect vehicle in an attempt to stop the threat to his life. The suspect was not injured by gunfire and drove off,” the release stated.

The vehicle was found abandoned within the Gila River Indian Community, officials said, and the suspect was was found about 1 p.m. by Chandler police walking near Hunt Highway and Gilbert Road.

One PCSO deputy is being treated for minor injuries.
