A Phoenix woman has been arrested as a suspect in a deadly hit-and-run crash that killed a 71-year-old Goodyear man, police said.

Joy Joyner has been booked into jail on one count of vehicular manslaughter and two counts of leaving the scene of a collision, according to Goodyear police.

The crash occurred about 9 a.m. Jan. 14 near Bullard Avenue and Catalina Drive. When police arrived they found Thomas Stenoien, 71, who was a pedestrian, and the family dog dead.

Witnesses remained at the scene to assist officers, “while another alert member of the community observed a suspicious vehicle pull into a private parking lot in the area at the time of the collision and reported their observation to police,” authorities said in a release.

An investigation was able to determine the driver of the vehicle, police said, and Joyner was taken into custody at about 2:30 p.m. Jan. 16.
