Phoenix police interview, release woman after fatal shooting of boyfriend

Posted

A woman has been released, pending the findings of an investigation, after shooting and killing her boyfriend early Monday morning, police said.

Officers were called about 1:30 a.m. June 23 to the shooting at a home near 23rd Avenue and Butler Drive where they found Tony Garcia, 46, on the ground with a gunshot wound. He died at a hospital.

Officers detained a woman at the home who was identified as Garcia’s girlfriend.

Detectives processed the scene, reviewed evidence and interviewed the woman and “learned there was an assault that occurred between Garcia and the woman that led to the shooting,” a Phoenix Police Department release stated.

After consulting with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, detectives released the woman pending the outcome of the investigation, police said.
