Two Phoenix residents have been sentenced to three years of supervised probation and ordered to pay nearly $200,000 after they pleaded guilty to facilitation to commit money laundering, authorities said.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced the sentencing of Jadakah Johnson, 21, and Raymond Johnson Jr., 20, in an Empowerment Scholarship Account Program fraud case.
The pair “unlawfully received ESA funds, even though they were not properly eligible to receive those funds and had reason to know the funds were proceeds of a fraud scheme or theft,” according to a release from the Arizona Attorney General’s Office.
On Jan. 17, the Johnsons pleaded guilty and, on Feb. 13, they were each sentenced to probation and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $196,526.33, the release stated.
