A back-to-school resource fair on Monday will provide students with free backpacks, supplies, health screenings and more, Phoenix Vice Mayor Yassamin Ansari said.
Ansari is teaming up with community partners and businesses for the Aug. 14 event, which will take place 4-7 p.m. at the Cesar Chavez Community Center, 7858 S. 35th Ave. in Laveen.
More than 1,500 people attended last year’s event, and Ansari said she expects more on Monday.
School supplies and backpacks are first come, first served. Families with school-aged children are encouraged to arrive early to ensure that they can get supplies and additional special giveaways, according to a release.
Free dinner will be provided by an Aioli Gourmet Food Truck for the first 150 guests, the release stated.
