Pedestrian crossing street against signal hit, killed in west Phoenix

Posted

A 29-year-old man was in a crosswalk Friday night walking against the signal when he was hit by a vehicle and run over by “an unknown number” of others, Phoenix police said.

Detectives have taken over the case from officers who responded about 6:05 p.m. Nov. 10 to the 83rd Avenue/Osborn Road intersection.

Giovany Escobedo was found, treated at the scene but did not survive, according to a release.

“Detectives responded and learned that the victim was walking in the marked crosswalk against the signal when he was struck by a passing car,” the release stated.

“The initial collision caused Escobedo to fall at which time he was struck by an unknown number of other vehicles.”

The man driving the car that first hit the victim stayed at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, police said.
