Passenger runs over rideshare driver several times, 74-year-old dies: Phoenix PD

A 31-year-old woman is facing homicide charges after running over a 74-year-old man multiple times with his vehicle, police said Wednesday.

At about 5:15 p.m. Jan. 21, Phoenix officers were called to 40th Street and Baseline Road and found a vehicle stopped next to a canal. A woman, Jordan Spalding, was in the driver’s seat, and Samuel Webster was on the ground with signs of trauma, police said.

Webster was taken to a hospital but did not survive.

Spalding was interviewed and detained.

Detectives arrived to speak to witnesses, process the scene and collect video surveillance. Evidence so far suggests Webster was a rideshare driver who gave Spalding a ride, according to a Phoenix Police Department release. During the ride, “an altercation between the two occurred.

“Witnesses saw the vehicle stop next to the canal where both Webster and Spalding got out. Spalding later got into the driver seat, drove the vehicle and ran Webster over, multiple times.”

After speaking with detectives, Spalding was booked for second-degree murder.
