U.S. Senator Martha McSally (R-AZ) is hostinig a telephone town hall at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 3 to discuss her new bill to lower the cost of prescription drugs.
During the event, Ms. McSally will speak with thousands of Arizonans about how the high costs of health care and prescription drug prices are impacting their families and answer their questions, according to a release.
Arizona residents can join her by calling 855-531-1067 at 10:15 a.m. Arizona time or by texting “SenMcSally” (one word) to 828282 to get registered for the event.
According to the release, Ms. McSally will introduce legislation to lower the cost of prescription drugs for Arizonans. Her bill will purportedly lower patients’ out-of-pocket expenses significantly by promoting a more competitive and transparent marketplace for prescription drugs.
Her bill attempts to lower the cost of prescription drugs for all Americans through four key provisions:
- Allow Medicare to directly negotiate prices of drugs that are past their original patent expiration but still maintain a monopoly for that drug.
- Permit the safe re-importation of prescription drugs from Canada that meet FDA safety standards.
- Curb the ability of drug companies to abuse the patent system to delay competition and prevent cheaper alternatives from entering the market.
- Cap the out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs for seniors on Medicare at $3,100 each year.
