May 10 fundraiser supports Phoenix officer recovering from glioblastoma
Posted
The Phoenix Police Department is inviting public to help an officer who underwent surgery for glioblastoma last year.
Between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday, May 10 the public can have breakfast, lunch and dinner to support Officer Steve Fluty at the Phoenix Police Department's Desert Horizon Precinct, 16030 N. 56th St. south of Bell Road.
Mr. Fluty is a 22-year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department. Prior to serving with Phoenix, he was a deputy with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office for over seven years.
He has served the state for almost 30 years.
In July 2018, Mr. Fluty went in for a routine eye exam. But his capable optometrist noticed something was not right and sent Mr. Fluty for an MRI. Two days later, Mr. Fluty was having surgery to attempt to remove a level 4 glioblastoma from the right side of his brain.
“Now is the time to thank Steve for his years of service to our state and community!” a flyer announcing the fundraiser states.
Breakfast is 5 to 10 a.m. Friday. Lunch/dinner is 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Donations are also accepted online at pleacharities.org (memo Steve Fluty).
“Our hope is that we can disseminate this coverage as wide as possible so the community and other law-enforcement agencies will join us to support a true and dedicated hero who has been serving his community for almost 30 years,” Sgt. James Rothschild said.
