Members of cover band Yachtzilla! holding charity concert

Raising money, honoring life of deceased bandmate Charles ‘Spanky’ Lake

The loss of Charles “Spanky” Lake in April 2024 to esophageal cancer affected the lives of many people. Lake was the drummer in Yachtzilla!, a yacht-rock themed cover band from Arizona, and was friends with many fellow musicians as well as a loving husband to his wife, Terri Lake.

To honor the life and legacy of Spanky, TAD Management, The Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children, members of Yachtzilla! and other bands are putting on a special event — The Charles Lake Concert to Beat Cancer, which is set to run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 3 at The Venue at Canyon House, 6159 E. University Drive in Mesa.

The concert will feature performances from various cover bands including Candle in the Wind, which covers Elton John; Voyager, which covers Journey; Yacthzilla!; and The Spanky Lake’s All-Star Revue, which features members from bands Lake played with.
