Maricopa County approves $452K to ‘strengthen the heart’ of Guadalupe

Posted

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has authorized spending $452,000 to revitalize a section of Guadalupe to make areas of the community more accessible.

The money will go toward reconstructing a well-trafficked parking lot in the community, according to a county release.

“While it might seem like just a parking lot, this project is so much more. By renovating this space, we are ensuring that Guadalupe’s Town Hall, a branch of South Mountain Community College, the local library and beloved mercado are more accessible and welcoming to everyone,” District 5 Supervisor Steve Gallardo said.

“This investment strengthens the heart of the community, helps to connect neighbors, support education and celebrate local culture. It’s a small, meaningful change that will have a big impact for years to come.”

The funding will be used to renovate and reconstruct the north and south parking lots next to the Guadalupe Town Hall by removing three inches of the existing asphalt surface, sealing all below grade cracks, overlaying the surface with new asphalt and applying a sealcoat to the new asphalt pavement.

Work also will include removing and replacing three speed humps, retrofitting sidewalk ramps to meet ADA compliance, restriping the parking lot and repainting the entire area, the release stated.

"Funding this parking lot renovation is a win for the entire community," Guadalupe Town Manager/Clerk Jeff Kulaga said.

"Improving accessibility to these spaces supports learning, local businesses and civic engagement. It’s not just about parking – it's about investing in the shared spaces that bring us together and make communities a stronger, more connected place to live.”

Gallardo allocated the money from the Maricopa County Community Solutions Funding.

The county budget provides each supervisor a set amount of Community Solutions Funding each year “to help advance Maricopa County’s strategic goals and provide clear public benefits for residents,” the release stated.
