Golf cart driver dies in Sun City collision with SUV

Posted

An 82-year-old man died Saturday when the golf cart he was driving collided with an SUV in Sun City, officials said.

Chester Sharpe died in the crash, which occurred at about 10:30 a.m. July 29, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Sharpe was driving south on 103rd Avenue south of Cherry Hills Drive when the golf cart made “an abrupt left turn, crossing left of center and colliding head-on with the SUV," an MCSO spokesman said in a release.

Sharpe was pronounced dead by medical personnel, according to MCSO.

Authorities said a preliminary investigation suggests Sharpe had a “medical event” prior to the collision.

The SUV driver was not impaired, officials said.
