Man charged with assaulting police officer at Sky Harbor Airport

Posted

A 21-year-old man who police said entered Terminal 4 at Sky Harbor Airport late Christmas night with several guns has been charged with assaulting an officer, authorities said Thursday.

Cole Nenon had no connection to a shooting in the terminal that occurred earlier in the evening and injured several people, police said.

The suspect entered the terminal just before 11:25 p.m. Dec. 25 after he was told by a relative about the shooting, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.

Nenon handed his firearms to others at the airport before he approached the officer who was posted outside the shooting scene, police said.

“Nenon appeared irate and began yelling at the officer as he approached him. The officer gave Nenon commands to stop, but he did not. The officer was able to take the man to the ground and placed him under arrest,” the release stated.

During the struggle, police said the suspect struck the officer and spat on him.

Nenon was later booked for aggravated assault on the officer. Three firearms were recovered and impounded.
