Phoenix police have arrested a 40-year-old man who they said ran away from a collision where a woman died.

Francisco Garcia Garcia was arrested Sept. 3 and booked on charges that include leaving the scene of a fatal collision and endangerment.

Police responded about 2 a.m. Sept. 1 to 67th Avenue and Indian School Road where a vehicle hit a pole and rolled over.

Officers found two vehicles that were involved in the collision at the intersection. Two women were in the vehicle that rolled over. Akua Mashavu Safiya Miggins, 36, died at the scene, the other suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Preliminary information indicated the vehicle in which Miggins was a passenger was westbound on Indian School Road proceeding through 67th Avenue, when it was struck from behind by the other vehicle involved.  Miggins’ vehicle traveled into the power pole and rolled over.

The search for the person in the other vehicle began.
