Lowell Raymond Scoggan

Posted
SUN CITY WEST - Lowell R. Scoggan, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed from this life on March 24th, 2013, in Sun City West, Arizona. He loved life so much, and fought to the end - but became tired of the poking, prodding, and medical tests that filled his final days. Lowell was born in 1926 to Dotson and Mabel Scoggan, growing up on a 2,000-acre cattle and wheat farm 11 miles from Beloit, Kansas. He attended grammar and middle school in a one-room schoolhouse and enjoyed his brothers Clarence, Harold, and sister Marie. He enlisted in the United States Merchant Marines near the end of World War II before finishing his studies at Kansas State University, earning a bachelor of science in business administration in 1950. He and Patricia Hale were married in 1950 and moved to Boulder, Colorado in 1955, where he prospered as a successful real estate broker and developer. He and Pat traveled extensively, visiting 49 of the 50 United States, as well as destinations throughout the world. He was a generous volunteer and donated time and resources to numerous charities and churches during his life. He was very proud of his over 5 years as a volunteer investigator with the Boulder County District Attorney's Office, helping solve many white-collar crime cases, returning thousands of dollars to victims. He was an avid sports coach (coached his son, daughter, and grandson in baseball and softball), high school football referee (23 years), and fan, supporting his local teams - the University of Colorado Buffaloes, Denver Broncos, Utah Jazz, and recently, the Phoenix Suns. He was a 50-year subscriber to Sports Illustrated, and guided his family to carry on his passion for sports. In addition to his beloved wife, Patricia, he is survived by his son, Steve (Debi) Scoggan of Park City, Utah; his daughter, Laura (Robert) Styles of Novato, California; his grandchildren Skyler and Scarlett Scoggan, and Elise and Brian Styles; his brother Clarence of Beloit, Kansas, and sister Marie, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews. A good and generous man, he will be missed by all that knew him. His sense of humor and love of God will be remembered forever. A memorial service will be held on April 6, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Desert Palms Presbyterian Church in Sun City West, Arizona.
