Litchfield Park to honor the fallen in Memorial Day ceremony

Posted

The city of Litchfield Park will host a Memorial Day ceremony May 29 at Litchfield Elementary School.

Litchfield Park veterans Stephen Elle and Kim Elle will give the keynote address during the ceremony. The husband-and-wife team served in the armed forces for more than 60 years.

As a Gold Star daughter, Kim Elle chose to serve after her father, Capt. Ted Sweeting died in an F-4 training accident. The ceremony will be an opportunity for her to remember Sweeting.

Litchfield Park Mayor Thomas L. Schoaf will lead the ceremony, which includes music, placing a floral tribute at the Litchfield Park World War II Memorial, prayer and moments of silence, and the playing of Taps. The Luke Air Force Base Honor Guard will also raise the American Flag.

A special POW-MIA ceremony also will take place to honor the brave men and women who were prisoners of war or went missing while serving our country.

The Memorial Day Ceremony will be in front of the World War II Memorial on the west side of Litchfield Elementary School, 255 E. Wigwam Blvd., Litchfield Park, Arizona 85340. It begins at 7 a.m. and is expected to last approximately 45 minutes. Light refreshments will be served. Parking is available in the parking lot on the north and south side of the school.
