Lawmakers approve 'reasonable care' legislation for infants that are born

PHOENIX — Arizona lawmakers gave final approval Thursday to legislation requiring doctors to provide “medically appropriate and reasonable care and treatment” to any infant born alive, regardless of whether it is likely to survive.

Only one House Democrat, Rep. Lydia Hernandez of Phoenix, voted for the measure.

The vote on SB 1600 sends the measure to Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs. The Senate had approved the same language last month.
