Kyrene School District Governing Board will consider approving an affiliate agreement with the Eastern New Mexico University Speech and Hearing Rehabilitation Outreach Center for the placement of students in the district to gain clinical learning experiences.

At its Nov. 28 meeting, the governing board members will vote to approve this agreement as part of its consent agenda.

ENMU seeks to provide its students with a clinical learning experience “through the application of knowledge and skills in client-centered situations and settings,” as explained by a district report. 

As part of the agreement, Kyrene agrees to make its facility available to the school and its students for those purposes. 

Students will be supervised during these clinical therapy experiences, which will be overseen by a coordinator from Kyrene and the student’s speech-language pathology supervisor at the district.

Prior to their study at the district, students will have completed training in universal health precautions and bloodborne pathogens, CPR certification, HIPAA regulations and abuse and neglect reporting. 

“ENMU agrees to… assign only those students who have completed required coursework and clinical proficiency as needed to successfully serve clients at district,” the report stated. 

If approved, the agreement will become effective and will remain in effect until June 30, 2027, unless otherwise discussed. This agreement may be extended on a yearly basis for up to five years.
