More than 120 HonorHealth Ambassadors, including CEO Todd LaPorte, joined forces with local organizations across the Valley Nov. 18 to build, plant, organize and assist in any way they may need as part of the fifth annual HonorHealth Ambassador Give Back Day.

“At HonorHealth, we encourage our more than 14,000 team members to be involved in the community by giving their time and energy to support causes that most resonate with them,” said LaPorte. “This is our fifth annual HonorHealth Give Back Day led by our HonorHealth Ambassadors and I’m excited to join other team members to give back to the community and those in need.”

Volunteers from the HonorHealth Ambassador movement worked with six organizations around the Valley by rolling up their sleeves and getting to work to help those in need. The organizations were:

• Operation Fix It works to assist qualified Scottsdale homeowners with issues related to health and safety on their properties, and volunteers, including LaPorte, helped by doing yard work, weed clean-up and eneral exterior maintenance to get a homeowner’s house back up to code.
• Brick by Brick is a program developed and coordinated by Scottsdale’s Human Services department to assist people experiencing homelessness. The volunteers spent their morning creating compressed earth blocks, which are sustainable adobe-like bricks, for use in Scottsdale capital projects and other areas throughout the community.
• HonorHealth Desert Mission Food Bank offers several free and reduced cost food programs, nutrition education and resource and referral services. The HonorHealth Ambassadors were joined by United States Senator Kyrsten Sinema to help distribute Thanksgiving food boxes as part of the HonorHealth Desert Mission annual Turkey Distribution. “Every year, HonorHealth Desert Mission Food Bank – and food banks across Arizona – go above and beyond to ensure Arizona families have meals during the holiday season. I am grateful for the opportunity to join Desert Mission and I’m thankful for their continued service to Arizona year-round,” said Sinema.
• Orchard Community Learning Garden is enabling families to have affordable access to healthy food, active living and connection to their cultures. The HonorHealth volunteers completed activities including garden clean up and planting cabbage, broccoli and other produce at the Orchard Community Garden Center.
• Tempe Community Action Agency lifts economically vulnerable households in the East Valley out of poverty by helping adults and families enhance their stability and security by providing support that helps them meet their goals. The HonorHealth Ambassadors spent their morning by helping with the distribution of Thanksgiving food boxes.
• Valley View Food Bank, which serves those in need with compassion and respect while providing resources for nutritious food. Valley View Community offers a safe, positive environment where those seeking help can easily find the resources they need to feed themselves and their families. The HonorHealth volunteers helped with preparing Thanksgiving food boxes and filled more than 500 bags of food for needy families.

The HonorHealth Ambassador Movement is made up of more than 4,000 HonorHealth team members who volunteer their time throughout the year to support causes they care about.
