Hobbs orders U.S., Arizona flags lowered to half-staff to honor Pope Francis

Posted

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs has ordered U.S. and Arizona flags to fly at half-staff to honor the life and legacy of Pope Francis.

The order is in conjunction with President Donald Trump’s proclamation for flags to be lowered through the day of interment.

Flags should immediately be lowered to half-staff and remain so through sunset on the day of interment, which is yet to be set, according to a release.

"I join Catholics across Arizona, and the world, in mourning the death of Pope Francis," Hobbs said.

"He led the Church with humility and dignity and was a voice for those who too often have none. We can all learn from his message of compassion and empathy for the least among us.”

Individuals, businesses and other organizations are encouraged to join in the tribute, the governor's release stated.
