Heat warning closes 2 Phoenix trails through July 4 weekend

The National Weather Service has declared an excessive heat warning through the July 4 weekend, and Phoenix officials have imposed the city’s hiking prohibition at Camelback Mountain and Piestewa Peak.
The prohibition extends from Saturday through Tuesday, July 1-4, and the city is discouraging people from hiking along any Phoenix trail from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day the warning is in effect.
The National Weather Service forecasts holiday weekend temperatures could reach 118 degrees. Overnight lows are projected to be between 80-87 degrees.
In addition, the Arizona Department of Environmenal Quality on Friday issued and ozone high pollution advisory through July 2.
