Grand jury indicts man charged with shooting at Phoenix police officers

A 46-year-old man has been indicted on 17 felony counts, including aggravated assault, in connection with firing shots at Phoenix police officers last month.

Martin Joseph Oliver was arrested June 4 after it is alleged he shot at the officers and barricaded himself at an apartment complext near 7th Avenue and McDowell Road, according to a release from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Charges in the indictment include 10 counts of aggravated assault, one count of burglary in the first degree, five counts of disorderly conduct and one count of misconduct involving weapons, MCAO officials said.

Oliver was booked into jail on June 4, and the court agreed with the county’s request that he be held without bond.

“My priority is to ensure appropriate release conditions are requested so that potentially dangerous offenders are not released into the community while they await trial,” Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said.
