The city of Glendale and Mercy Housing have partnered for a new affordable housing project for seniors.
The $61 million investment will provide 148 new affordable apartments for seniors ages 62 and older.
Mercy Housing is a national nonprofit housing organization working to eliminate homelessness and housing insecurity for low-income families, seniors, individuals, and people with disabilities.
The local office is located at 6515 W. Maryland Ave.
City staff, led by Community Services Director Jean Moreno, has been working with Mercy since 2021 to help the nonprofit navigate the process to bring forward this development, which includes 17 homes for seniors at 30% Area Median Income (AMI), 63 homes for seniors at 50% AMI, and 68 homes for seniors at 60% AMI.
Additionally, a city press release notes that Mercy Housing will provide the senior citizens living in 30 homes with Permanent Supportive Housing services that include on-site case management and wrap around services for households that are exiting homelessness with a preference for qualifying veterans.
