A 60-year-old Glendale man was found dead inside a garage Wednesday morning with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after starting a fire inside a Peoria home, police said.

Peoria police responded about 7:05 a.m. Nov. 15 to a report of a shot being fired near 18700 N. 92^nd Drive and spoke to the man’s wife outside the home. She was not injured and  told officers her husband went back inside the home with his gun.

More officers arrived, and a perimeter was set up around the home. Police gave commands for the man to exit, authorities said in a release.

“During this time he set fire to some contents inside the residence causing some smoke to be visible through the doors and windows,” Peoria police said in the release.

“After several attempts to deescalate the situation, our officers unfortunately located him inside the garage with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Several units and agencies responded to the incident, including the Peoria Police Department Special Assignments Unit, Peoria Fire Medical, Sun City Fire Medical, the Glendale Fire Department and the Surprise Fire Department.
