Glendale forgery, robbery suspect in custody

Posted

A man was arrested for allegedly robbing employees of a store and later being found in possession of dozens of personally-identifying documents belonging to other people.

Scott William Mcleman, 40, faces charges including armed robbery, kidnapping, forgery, theft, unlawful possession, and failure to stay.

On Feb. 20, Glendale police responded to a furniture store near Loop 101 and 67th Avenue, where an employee encountered a suspect in a break room.

The suspect demanded the worker’s car keys and watch. After taking the watch, the suspect ran into the main store where he began yelling at everyone to get on the ground. The suspect approached a UPS driver and threatened to shoot him despite not displaying a weapon.

The suspect then exited the store and tried to enter a truck that was locked. He then tried to get into the UPS truck as the driver took off.

Police located a woman who had been with the suspect prior to the robbery and learned the suspect’s identity.

Police learned the suspect had been driving a stolen vehicle and fled the scene of an earlier collision. Inside the vehicle were stolen credit cards, bank statements, checks, ID cards and other items with at least 46 different names on them. Police also found multiple ID cards with the suspect’s photograph but names of different people.

They also located a laptop that was actively using a program to create fake IDs.

One of the ID theft victims told police he had loaned the suspect his vehicle but it was never returned.

On Tuesday, Glendale police arrested Scott Mcleman near 19th Avenue and Bell Road after he was seen driving a stolen vehicle out of Lake Havasu City.

Police found a loaded shotgun, drugs and more personal documents inside the vehicle. Mr. Mcleman allegedly admitted to forging documents and being good at it.

He was jailed in lieu of a $75,000 bond with court dates March 11 and 13.
