Gilbert man dies parachuting in Pinal County

Posted

A 46-year-old Gilbert man died Saturday after a “hard landing” while parachuting, Eloy police said.

Eloy police officers responded to Hanna and Tweedy roads following reports of a “parachutist experiencing a hard landing” and found Shawn Bowen who had died from his injuries.

Preliminary information indicates Bowen jumped at about 11:40 a.m. Feb. 1 using a “wingsuit-type apparatus,” Eloy police stated on Facebook.

“During freefall, for reasons that remain unknown at this time, his parachute did not deploy, resulting in a fatal impact.”

Investigators were interviewing witnesses Saturday afternoon while coordinating with the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy this week, officials said.

Saturday's incident occurred a week after a woman died parachuting in Eloy.
