HALO Animal Rescue has gas stolen, van damaged

About HALO Animal Rescue
HALO (Helping Animals Live On) is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit organization founded in 1994 by Michel Herstam and Heather Allen in Phoenix. HALO provides temporary shelter to abandoned cats and dogs until they can be adopted into permanent homes. HALO is a limited admission or "no-kill" facility. HALO, believing that their strategy serves the animals in greatest need, selects animals from "open admission" shelters. Since its creation, HALO Animal Rescue has saved the lives of more than 78,000 cats and dogs.
HALO Animal Rescue’s Transport Team was set to leave March 31 to pick up 35 dogs from Barb’s Dog Rescue in Puerto Penasco, Mexico, and bring them back to Phoenix for adoption, only to find a huge leak in their gas tank and damage to the driver’s side mirror.
Greulich’s, a nearby automotive shop, reported that three holes had been drilled into the tank. Sadly, HALO had something similar happen last week to another van where the hose had been removed to siphon the gas.
“We know that everyone is overwhelmed with the rising cost of fuel and can sympathize with someone’s feeling of desperation,” stated Heather Allen, HALO’s President and CEO, “we just wish they wouldn’t harm others, and in our case, homeless pets and the people who care for them, to get their needs met. We have had to postpone the trip to rescue the dogs and have over $2500 in repairs to the van to contend with.”
HALO Animal Rescue is trying to help pets find their “furever” homes. The partnerships HALO has, along with transporting shelter pets from vet clinics to the shelter to other adoptable locations, are important pieces of helping these animals live on. The hard times of today’s world are nothing new to HALO’s team. They just never thought gas would be one of their worries.
For anyone who can donate toward the repair to the transport van, and an important cause, the gift will be matched dollar for dollar by April 15 to help HALO’s team do what they do best, helping animals live on.
