Freeways free of work for Memorial Day weekend

No freeway construction work is scheduled over the Memorial Day weekend, but state transportation officials said drivers should plan for unexpected delays.

Construction work will end Friday afternoon, May 26, and there will be no scheduled closures through Monday night, May 29, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

ADOT still recommends an early start for trips and allotting extra time, especially during peak travel periods.

Motorists should be prepared for unscheduled highway closures due to crashes, disabled vehicles or other incidents such as wildfires, officials said.

ADOT suggests drivers pack an emergency kit, including drinking water, a first-aid kit, a flashlight, extra batteries, a charged cellphone and charger, snacks, diapers if necessary and a small tool kit.
