Freeway ramps in Buckeye reopen for Super Bowl week travel

Posted

State transportation officials said this week they have met a goal to open two ramps at the Watson Road interchange in Buckeye in time for Super Bowl traffic.

Crews have been working on an Interstate 10 widening project in the West Valley, forcing them to close the eastbound on- and off-ramps at Watson Road.

The reopening of the ramps “has restored direct access to and from one of the city’s busiest shopping and business areas, including hotels where Super Bowl visitors are staying this week,” Arizona Department of Transportation officials said in a release.

The ramps also will help with access to the city’s annual Buckeye Airfair the weekend of Feb. 17-19.

The eastbound I-10 ramps at Watson Road were closed for a month as reconstruction work took place. Crews are continuing construction that will turn the I-10/Watson Road connections into a diverging diamond interchange, according to ADOT.

The $82 million project to widen I-10 to three lanes in both directions between Verrado Way and State Route 85 started in July 2021. The project is scheduled to be completed this summer.
