Former Scottsdale detective resigns from police department

Michael Lanouar has resigned from the Scottsdale Police Department after the former detective was indicted on charges linked to an off-duty crash that injured several people, officials said.

Police said on May 1 that Lanouar resigned on March 20 “and is no longer employed at the Scottsdale Police Department or with the city of Scottsdale.”

Lanouar was indicted by a Maricopa County grand jury in March on felony charges of aggravated assault and endangerment stemming from a collision in November at Pima and Indian School roads.

“Lanouar was driving his assigned detective vehicle while off-duty when he collided with another vehicle, causing injury to the occupants, as well as damage to both vehicles. Lanouar was arrested on suspicion of DUI,” police said in an earlier release.

Laboratory results showed Lanouar's blood alcohol concentration was .198 % at the time of the crash, police said. Charges were recommended to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, and Lanouar was indicted on March 1.

He was placed on non-disciplinary suspension at the department prior to his resignation, according to police.
