A federal jury convicted a former Phoenix television news anchor in a case relating to fraudulent COVID-era federal business loans, but was acquitted on four other charges.
Stephanie Hockridge, who was an anchor on KNXV ABC15, was convicted on one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, but acquitted on four counts of wire fraud, according to Azfamily.com.
The case revolved around Payroll Protection Program loans Hockridge and her husband, Nathan Reis, helped people obtain in 2020. Prosecutors said the couple started a company, Blueacorn, that used fake documents to help companies get loans for a kickback on a portion of the loan.
Both Hockridge and Reis were indicted. Reis is set to go to trial in August.
