As the impact of the corona virus continues to be felt by everyone — both here and across the world — we have made the decision to postpone Valley View Community Food Bank’s upcoming Spring Fling, scheduled for March 28 AT Old Pueblo Café and Pub in Litchfield Park. We believe that we have a sacred duty to protect our community members — especially the most vulnerable among us — and we are doing everything we can to minimize the risk to clients, staff, volunteers, and supporters during this unprecedented crisis.
A great deal of effort had already been made to assure that this year's Spring Fling event was successful. As a result, many people had already purchased tickets and made donations. Although we will honor any requests for refunds, we hope that everybody will consider either donating the funds already sent in, or hold onto reservations for a later date when the pandemic emergency has passed.
The postponing of our Spring Fling brings with it additional concerns. We had already faced the issue of doubling and tripling costs of basic staples that we purchase for our clients, and the summer is coming. The hot months always stretch our resources thin as people grapple with both high temperatures and high utility bills, and children are home and away from programs that help feed them during the school year. We provide service to many grandparents who are also raising their grandchildren. Therefore, whatever donations made to us are desperately needed, greatly appreciated, and are more life-saving than ever right now.
We are committed to keeping the food bank open during this emergency, and will follow all protocols possible to maintain safety and good health for everyone. For additional information or assistance, call Jesse Ramirez at 623-297-9102, or email vvcfb@yahoo.com.
As always, we thank our supporters for all they do, and how very much they care.
