The Florence Police Department would like to remind everyone to stay safe this holiday weekend as an excessive heat warning is in effect for the town from today to Tuesday, July 4.
With temperatures hitting triple digits, Florence Police strongly encourage residents to hydrate, stay in shaded areas and to make sure children, pets and valuables are not left in vehicles.
Other tips include:
Take a bottle of water with you when you are out and about.
Make sure you get enough sleep and rest when you are tired.
Eat more cold foods such as salads and fruits because they contain water and are more refreshing.
Wear a hat or take an umbrella if you are outside.
Take a cool shower or bath if you feel overheated.
Wear lightweight, light colored and loose-fitting clothes made from fibers like cotton or linen.
Make use of fans or air conditioners.
Avoid alcohol, coffee and tea, as well as hot, spicy and salty foods as they can worsen dehydration.
The Florence Police Department also asks residents not to use social media to try to report criminal activity or incidents that may require help from law enforcement or necessitate medical attention.
“While it is encouraged to reach out to friends and family to inform them of your safety, posting critical information or a crime committed on social media may not be seen by law enforcement, and can sometimes result in help not being immediately routed,” Florence Police states.
Florence Police say to contact the department through its non-emergency number, 520-868-7681, Option 2. For emergencies, call 911.
