Florence council needs to deal with construction noise

Posted

Regarding the "Council not happy with proposed noise changes” article in your Florence Independent November 2023 issue. How the council feels is NOTHING compared to how the people who live on Felix Road feel.

The neighbors of Wildhorse, Crestfield and Anthem have had a SERIOUS noise issue with cement truck, belly dump and dump truck noise that begins by 5 a.m., and doesn’t end until after dark most days. They speed along Felix Road with zero concern for the folks who live in that area. We’re “treated” to jake brakes at 4:30/5 a.m. along with slapping trailers on the road (which is literally in some of our backyards).

They’re also tearing up our road which was just resurfaced about two years ago. We can’t enjoy peace or any semblance of quiet on our patios or backyards or even inside our homes. The idea that the council could let them start even earlier is absurd. That’s not for the “betterment” of OUR community, it’s for the “betterment” of the company’s wallets at the expense of neighbor’s enjoyment of their homes.

Our neighborhoods have been forgotten by any kind of law enforcement whatsoever. It seems as though these trucks are given pretty much free rein to drive as fast and as reckless as they want with zero worry of getting stopped, much less getting a ticket. Neighbors are over it. We’re over the road noise, the constant flouting of laws and the sheer volume of trucks (100+ per day making at least two trips back and forth) making an incredible amount of noise.

If the council truly wants to be “fair,” they could start with being fair to the people who live along Felix Road and reroute the trucks to a more suitable location such as Hunt Highway. Now that there’s a light at Arizona Farms and Hunt Highway there shouldn’t be any issue with them taking Hunt Highway to Attaway Road instead of Felix Road.
