Elizabeth Comstock, 83Sun City West resident Elizabeth I. "Beth" Comstock died quietly in her sleep of heart disease Jan. 27 following a brave struggle with dementia.A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, March 1 at Desert Palms Presbyterian Church, 13459 Stardust Blvd., with a reception to follow.As she wished, her remains were donated to the Arizona Sun Health Research Institute's Brain and Body Donation Program, in hopes that her gift will help find a cure for Alzheimer's disease.Ms. Comstock was born Dec. 4, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minn. She grew up on a dairy farm near Elk River, Minn. The day after she graduated from high school, she ventured to Los Angeles where in 1948 she married Willis Grant Comstock of Clear Lake, Iowa.Those who knew her well remember her as sweet, gentle, loving, happy and always upbeat. She was a devoted wife, homemaker and partner, managing the family's various real estate businesses, and a dedicated and adoring mother. She loved hiking, camping, fishing and traveling, and spent several years with Willis touring the U.S. in their Airstream trailer. At home she liked to cook, entertain, sew, play piano, sing, dance, read, play bridge and do crossword puzzles.She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Eleanor Rideout; and two brothers, Herbert and Reginald Rideout.She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Gates, and son-in-law Dennis Gates of El Cerrito, Calif., and Allison Williams of Sedona; a son, Donald Comstock and daughter-in-law Linda Comstock of Irvine, Calif.; three sisters, Jeanette Harries, Dorothy Gormley and Margaret Asman; two granddaughters, Rebecca Foutch and Corissa Burns; two great-grandchildren, Reanna Comstock and Caden Burns; a sister-in-law, Lynette Amel of Sun City West; dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins; and the dear friends at her beloved Desert Palms Presbyterian Church.Her family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care she received at Freedom Inn of Sun City West and Sun View Care Center of Youngtown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org), which provides funding for research, care and support, and awareness and advocacy.
