DVUSD asks for Phoenix resident input on budget priorities

The Deer Valley Unified School District governing board is seeking community input for how the district should allocate resources for the 2024-25 school year in order to remain competitive and provide the best learning possibilities for students.

A budget committee has been formed and is seeking community input to develop a list of budget priorities. Once the committee compiles and categorizes these priorities, a subsequent survey will be sent to the community in January.

For the 2024-25 school year, the committee will be looking at balancing the budget with the Federal Stimulus funds concluding as well as the possibility of not having voter-supported initiatives for future years.

To provide examples of what has been developed previously, here are examples of major budget priorities from past years:

  • Ensure and maintain safety at campuses
  • Provide academic supports for all students, including full-day Kindergarten
  • Competitive salaries/wages and total compensation packages for all employees
  • Enhance special programs for students (STEM, STEAM, Special Education, Gifted, Career & Technical Education, Language Immersion, etc.)
  • Provide additional social/emotional supports for students
  • Supports for large student settings (e.g., adding staff for approaching class loads)
  • Capital Improvements

The initial survey is available through Jan. 3 at this link.
