Choosing the right school for children with autism

Eighteen-year-old Dagny Moore is a passionate high school senior who’s always excelled in school, but it wasn’t until the sixth grade she finally felt at ease heading to school once she found her perfect fit at Banner Academy in Tempe.

Dagny has autism, and before landing at Banner Academy, she found her elementary school lacking the necessary emotional and social support people with her disorder can require.

Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain that may impact the way people with ASD communicate and interact compared to neurotypical people, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
