Williamson, 84 PARADISE VALLEY - Dorothy McGuire Williamson entered the Kingdom of Heaven Friday, September 7, 2012. Dorothy, the daughter of Asa and Lillie (Fultz) McGuire, was born February 13, 1928, in Middletown, Ohio. Later her family moved to Miamisburg, Ohio where she and her sisters began singing in the church, where her mother served as an ordained minister. Dorothy was one of the McGuire Sisters, a well-known vocal group who began their career performing at weddings, funerals, and church revivals. The sisters got their big break on the Arthur Godfrey Talent Scouts show in 1952 and remained there for seven years. They became one of the most well known vocal groups in the country in the 50's and 60's with hits like "Sincerely" and "Sugartime" that spanned a 46-year career. Their classic harmony earned them invitations to perform at the White House for five presidents, numerous TV appearances, and an opportunity to sing for the Queen of England. Dorothy is survived by her sisters, Christine and Phyllis; her husband, Lowell; their two sons, Rex and David; her stepchildren, Rhonda Williamson Wootan and Eric Williamson; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at Valley Presbyterian Church (6947 E. McDonald Drive Paradise Valley, AZ 85253) on Saturday September 15, at 10:30 a.m. In celebration of Dorothy's life the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley (1510 E. Flower Street Phoenix, AZ 85014 - 602.530.6900) in lieu of flowers. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary.
